The Lady Huskies, a Team for the Ages

Artículo dedicado a las Lady Huskies, equipo femenino de baloncesto de la University of Connecticut, campeonas universitarias por segundo año consecutivo, y sin perder un partido
With all the attention centered on the NCAA men’s tournament, the incredible success of the Uconn Women’s program has gone largely ignored. The team is looking for its seventh title in fifteen years, and back to back championships with undefeated seasons. No other team in NCAA Division I sports has been as dominant as the Lady Huskies during the last decade.

Much of their success can be attributed to Geno Auriemma, the Italian born coach of the Huskies.  Au
riemma has now surpassed his rival, Tennessee coach Pat Summit, for the highest winning percentage among active Division I coaches.  The coach is also credited for cultivating in
dividual talent, as noted by the number of All-America selections and awards that his players have earned.  Dating back to the early 90’s when Rebecca Lobo was dominating college basketball, some of the best female players in the worl
d have played for Uconn, including Jennifer Rizzotti, Shea Ralph, Svetlana Abrosimova, Carla Berube, Swin Kash, Sue Bird, Kara Wolters, Diana Taurasi, Nykesha Sales, Tina Charles, and Maya Moore.
Should the Lady Huskies go on to win the National Championship, securing another undefeated season, they would have earned their spot along with the UCLA men’s teams of the late 60’s and early 70’s, as the greatest collegiate basketball team in NCAA history.
